Alton S. Tobey celebrated his 90th birthday Saturday, November 6, 2004 with over 150 family members, friends and patrons of the arts at the Sarah Neuman Center in Mamaroneck, New York. The occasion also marked the debut of this website, an ongoing project which is continually under development as a comprehensive overview of the life and work of a great 20th Century artist.
This site currently contains images of more than 300 paintings from Tobey's life works, includng his murals for the Smithsonian Institution, the MacArthur Memorial and Roots of Westchester for his home community of Westchester County, New York. More than 100 of his historical paintings for LIFE, the Golden Books series and other publications, a very detailed illustrated biography, information about his art techniques, his work as an educator, and his modern Curvilinear and Fragments paintings are all on these pages.
